The Role

Forged Fiber 37 is seeking a Training Design Manager to lead the strategy, design, development, and continuous improvement of technical training programs supporting Field Operations and Engineering & Construction organizations. 

This role will be responsible for creating engaging, scalable, and effective learning solutions that build workforce capability across installation, repair, fiber splicing, network engineering, construction, safety, and operational processes. The Training Design Manager will partner closely with business leaders, subject matter experts, operations teams, and training facilitators to ensure learning programs drive measurable business outcomes and employee performance. 

The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in instructional design, adult learning methodologies, curriculum architecture, and learning technologies, along with the ability to translate complex technical content into impactful learning experiences. 

In this role, the successful candidate will

  • Accelerate new hire time-to-proficiency across Field Operations and Engineering & Construction functions.
  • Increase technician, splicer, and field workforce readiness through scalable learning programs and competency-based development pathways.
  • Improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance metrics through targeted learning interventions.
  • Build sustainable, scalable learning programs that support business growth and evolving technology requirements.
  • Establish measurement frameworks that demonstrate training effectiveness and business impact through learner performance, operational outcomes, and workforce capability metrics.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Strategy & Curriculum Development

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive learning strategies and curriculum roadmaps for Field Operations and Engineering & Construction teams. 
  • Design onboarding, upskilling, certification, compliance, and leadership development programs. 
  • Conduct training needs assessments and performance gap analyses to identify learning opportunities. 
  • Partner with operational leaders to align training solutions with business priorities, technology changes, and workforce readiness initiatives. 
  • Establish learning pathways and competency models for technical and operational roles. 

Instructional Design & Content Development

  • Lead the design and development of instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, eLearning, microlearning, simulations, videos, performance support tools, and knowledge resources. 
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies including ADDIE, Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model, competency-based learning, and scenario-based learning. 
  • Transform complex technical concepts into engaging, learner-centered experiences. 
  • Ensure all learning content meets quality, accessibility, branding, and compliance standards. 

Learning Technology & Innovation

  • Administer and leverage Learning Management Systems (LMS) and learning technologies to support training delivery and measurement. 
  • Utilize tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Cornerstone OnDemand, and other content development platforms. 
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and learning innovations to improve effectiveness and scalability. 
  • Incorporate multimedia, interactive learning experiences, and digital learning assets into curriculum design. 

Program Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop training evaluation strategies and measure effectiveness using Kirkpatrick Levels 1–4. 
  • Analyze operational performance metrics, learner feedback, knowledge assessments, and business outcomes to determine training impact. 
  • Recommend curriculum enhancements based on performance trends, quality results, and evolving business needs. 
  • Establish reporting and governance processes to ensure training programs remain current and effective. 

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage instructional designers, contractors, and vendor resources supporting curriculum development efforts. 
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and professional development to training design team members. 
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to business leaders on workforce capability and learning effectiveness. 
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Safety, HR, Workforce Management, and Change Management teams. 

What We Look for in a Candidate

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Technologies, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Communications, or related field; equivalent experience considered. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Learning & Development, Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Education, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 5+ years of instructional design and learning development experience.
  • 2+ years of leading enterprise learning programs and large-scale curriculum initiatives. 
  • Experience supporting technical, field operations, telecommunications, utilities, construction, or engineering environments.
  • Expertise in adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and authoring tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting fiber broadband, telecommunications, engineering, or field service organizations. 
  • ATD certifications (CPLP/CPTD).
  • Experience in competency mapping and workforce capability development.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements, construction safety practices, and telecommunications field operations. 

Learning Technologies

  • Cornerstone OnDemand, SuccessFactors, Workday Learning, or similar LMS platforms.
  • Articulate 360 (Storyline, Rise).
  • Adobe Captivate.
  • Camtasia.
  • Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Learning analytics and reporting tools.
  • AI-enabled content development tools.

  • Increased training completion and certification compliance rates. 
  • Positive learner satisfaction and knowledge retention scores.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
