At Forged Fiber, our mission is bold but simple: deliver fast, reliable, future-proof connectivity that builds the foundation for everything online. As we execute, we believe the right way to do something is the only way. This foundation guides how the company builds, operates, and maintains a state-of-the-art open-access fiber network platform that empowers millions.

Forged Fiber is about more than building a network. It is about people. Every role matters. Every contribution counts. Together, employees create impact through teamwork, trust, and a shared commitment to excellence.

The Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer II with strong proficiency in Golang to design, build, test, deploy, and support reliable backend services and APIs. This role will contribute to cloud-based applications and data-enabled platforms that support reporting, operational workflows, and business decision-making. The engineer will work closely with product owners, engineers, data professionals, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, maintainable, and scalable solutions. This is a hybrid position based in Denver, Colorado, or Dallas, Texas, with regular in-office collaboration expected.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs using Golang as the primary programming language.

  • Build scalable, resilient, and observable applications designed for cloud deployment and production support.

  • Write clean, readable, well-documented, and testable code using sound software engineering practices.

  • Work with SQL and relational databases to access, process, and serve data reliably.

  • Deploy and operate applications in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or a comparable cloud environment.

  • Create and maintain automated unit, integration, and service-level tests.

  • Participate in CI/CD, source-control, code-review, and release-management processes.

  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.

  • Improve application performance, reliability, security, logging, monitoring, and alerting.

  • Partner with product owners and stakeholders to refine requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.

  • Deliver small features and enhancements independently while collaborating with the team on larger initiatives.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement in engineering standards, DevOps automation, documentation, and team practices.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on backend development.

  • Strong proficiency in Golang, including practical experience building and supporting production services or APIs.

  • Solid understanding of API design, concurrency, error handling, testing, dependency management, and performance in Go.

  • Experience with SQL and relational database concepts.

  • Experience deploying or supporting applications in a modern cloud platform; GCP experience is preferred.

  • Experience with Git-based development workflows, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and production deployments.

  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, maintainable backend code and diagnose complex technical issues.

  • Self-sufficient problem-solving and time-management skills, with sound judgment about when to collaborate or escalate.

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product owners, and business partners.

  • Ability to succeed in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining strong business ethics and a focus on quality.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without current or future employer sponsorship.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience with Java or another strongly typed backend language.

  • Experience with containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, or cloud-native application patterns.

  • Experience with event-driven systems, messaging, distributed systems, or high-volume data services.

  • Familiarity with application security, vulnerability remediation, secrets management, and secure coding practices.

  • Experience with observability tools and practices, including structured logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.

  • Working knowledge of frontend development or experience collaborating on full-stack solutions.

  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment such as Kanban or Scrum.

Success in This Role

  • Delivers dependable Golang services and enhancements that meet functional, quality, and supportability expectations.

  • Owns assigned work from design through production support, with appropriate collaboration and communication.

  • Improves the reliability, performance, test coverage, and maintainability of the team’s applications.

  • Builds trust with technical and business partners through consistent delivery, transparency, and sound engineering judgment.
