The Role 

Fiber Tech II - Splicing Technicians install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable in support of construction, operations, maintenance, and emergency restoration across our fiber networks.

Work Location: 5375 Zuni St Denver, CO 80221

The Main Responsibilities 

· Install, splice (single-fiber, multi-fiber, and ribbon), and test fiber optic cable for construction projects, which may include maintenance, and emergency restoration

· Troubleshoot and isolate fiber faults using tools such as OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifier, scope, and fault finder; save and send test files and documentation

· Prepare, install, audit, and repair splice cases/enclosures (aerial, buried, handholes, and manholes), including mid-span/mid-sheath splices across multiple cable types

· Perform dark fiber, reel, and continuity testing; complete routine repairs to restore service and maintain route integrity

· Place and test jumpers in communication cabinets and perform fiber panel/case audits

· Complete aerial and underground work as required (e.g., re-lashing/attaching cable, manhole work with gas detection/ventilation, pit work and shoring activities)

· Read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, design maps, diagrams/schematics, permits or any other documents and/or work orders to complete work accurately

· Ability to read and/or create As-Builts

· Coordinate with construction crews, contractors, Business Partners, and Network/Construction Engineering to resolve outages and meet project schedules; provide detailed field splicing reports when required

· Use company-assigned electronic devices for work orders, diagnostics, documentation, and communication

· Follow all quality and safety requirements, including applicable OSHA and other regulatory/company policies

· Perform all work according to quality control guidelines, regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NESC), and company procedures and standards

· Ability to perform or learn the skill for Optical Line Terminal (OLT) work, including test and turnup, troubleshooting and repairs for Remote Terminal / Central Office (RT/CO) facilities

Main Requirements

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Valid state driver’s license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record; ability to drive company vehicles safely

· 2+ years of relevant fiber splicing/telecom outside-plant or related experience (or equivalent training/experience)

· Working knowledge of hand and power tools; proficiency with fusion splicer, OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers, and inspection scope

· Ability to read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, design maps, diagrams/schematics, permits or any other documents and/or work orders; strong attention to detail and documentation skills

· Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with team members, contractors, and multiple agencies

· Basic computer skills (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to use electronic devices for field documentation and work orders

· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work effectively

· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and varied terrain

· Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., manholes, handholes, splice pits, crawl spaces/attics as applicable) with required safety practices (e.g., gas detection/ventilation)

· Ability to climb and work at elevations exceeding 18 feet (ladders/poles) while following safety and equipment requirements

· Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing/walking for extended periods and routinely lifting up to 75 lbs

· Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, standby rotation, and accept call-outs as needed

· Successful completion of applicable employment assessments/interviews and required background screening consistent with law

Preferred Qualifications

· Prior experience performing single-fiber, multi-fiber, and ribbon splicing

· Prior experience working with outside plant (OSP) construction and restoration activities

· Experience auditing splice cases/panels and identifying quality issues or inconsistencies

· Basic coursework or certification in fiber cable splicing/maintenance

· DOT certification (if required by assignment)

· Ability to tow a trailer or willingness to acquire this skill

Schedule, Travel & On-Call

Full-time; typical 8-hour shifts generally fall between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.; actual start/end times vary by assignment

Mandatory overtime may be required and may include weekends and holidays

May occasionally be assigned to work out of town for varying lengths of time

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$34.65 - $42 Hourly

What to Expect Next

Background Screening

If you are selected for a position, there will be a background screen, which may include checks for criminal records and/or motor vehicle reports and/or drug screening, depending on the position requirements.

This role is predesignated as safetysensitive under applicable state laws due to routine work at heights, near utilities, and around live traffic, where impairment poses a significant safety risk.
