Overview:
The Optical Engineer will evaluate optical platform supplier's technology, recommend long term platform evolution, write detailed plans describing functionality and interworking needed, and partner with suppliers to ensure products meet AT&T’s future network needs. The position will also track important developments and new technologies among optical system integrators, component, and sub-system suppliers, with specific focus on pluggable modules (client or lineside), 400G and above rates, silicon photonics, DSP, flexible ROADMs, and advances in optical fibers. In addition, the Optical Engineer will collaborate with a cross-organizational team and suppliers to define and develop feature requirements for AT&T’s next-generation flexible, SDN-controlled optical transport networks and work with Layer-2 and Layer-3 partners to support their current and future services over the Layer-1 ROADM networks.
Qualifications:
Network architecture, ethernet, routing protocols, and systems architecture. Packet-optical technology, software-defined networks (SDNs), YANG models and APIs, and network cost optimization.
Pluggable modules (client and lineside), digital coherent detection and digital signal processing, silicon photonics, and flexible ROADMs.
Architecture, Maintenance, Management, Services and Process Flows.
Cross-functional teamwork towards development of requirements and use cases in support of Metro & Inter-city SDN Infrastructure and Services.
Solving complex engineering problems.
Business acumen and aptitude to understand the key business drivers.
Education Requirement:
Candidate shall have a PhD in an approved STEM field (e.g. electrical engineering, physics) from an accredited university, or a Master's degree in an approved STEM field from an accredited university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in an approved STEM field from an accredited university and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
Environmental Requirements:
This position may be responsible for contributing to AT&T compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.
Our Lead Member of Technical Staff, earns between $171,600.00 - $257,400.00 USD Annual, not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
