Job Description:

At AT&T, we believe that forward thinking and deep insights are the foundation for shaping the future. As AVP of Foresights & Insights, you’ll be at the heart of shaping bold, customer-centric strategies in times of rapid change. Your work will guide innovation, inform executive decisions, and help position AT&T to lead tomorrow’s market.

This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a strategic, data-driven, and visionary Assistant Vice President (AVP) to lead AT&T Marketing and Growth Organization’s (MGO) Foresights & Insights function. This role will be responsible for translating emerging trends, consumer behavior, market signals, and data into actionable foresights that drive innovation, business strategy, and long-term growth. The ideal candidate will blend strategic thinking, voice of the customer, and a deep understanding of how to uncover and activate meaningful insights across the organization.

The leader of MGO’s Foresights & Insights function must be customer centric and have a proven track record standing up and leading teams of analysts to deliver best-in-class foresights & insights inside large, complex organizations. The candidate must have experience partnering closely with internal business and external “futurist” partners to collect and build upon existing data and thinking.  This is a pivotal leadership role where strategic vision, deep expertise, and the ability to synthesize and communicate foresights & insights effectively to senior stakeholders are critical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foresight Development: Lead the identification, tracking, and synthesis of macro trends (e.g., economy, AI, digital, connectivity), cultural shifts (e.g., political, societal, attitudinal), market dynamics (size/growth, buying behaviors, noteworthy international telecom developments), and competitive signals (e.g., evolutionary shifts) to develop forward-looking perspectives and identify opportunity spaces to unlock customer driven growth across the four marketing Ps – Product, Pricing, Promotion, Place.
  • Consumer & Market Trends and Insights: Build and manage a robust trends and insights “engine” that gathers and synthesizes intelligence.  Much of the intelligence leveraged will be “off the shelf”, gathered from external “futurists” and internal VOC/analytics platforms.  At times, fresh / custom intelligence may need to be gathered to dive deeper into a specific topic area.
  • Innovation Catalyst: Translate foresights into a POV on opportunities for white space exploration, marketing innovation, and future scenario planning.  Structure and lead innovation sessions focused on the “4 Ps” (e.g., product innovation, pricing/promo/packaging innovation, etc.)
  • Thought Leadership and High Impact Executive Communication: Develop high-impact reports, briefs, presentations, and workshops to evangelize key insights and foresights across the organization and inspire senior leaders to innovate.  Partner with MGO Knowledge Management function to showcase key foresights and insights.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with teams across marketing, product, strategy, customer experience, and analytics to ensure insights are embedded in decision-making.
  • Strategic Influence: Partner with marketing leadership, business units, and product teams to shape marketing strategy/innovation, product pipelines, brand positioning, and go-to-market plans and tactics based on insights.  The AVP must regularly teach and guide senior leaders to consider new information and change their traditional ways of thinking. The role requires significant diplomacy and tact as well as a solid understanding of AT&T Business Operations and Strategy, product portfolio and financials.
  • Measurement & Optimization: Establish KPIs to evaluate the impact of foresights & insights work and continuously improve the function’s effectiveness and strategic value.
  • Team Leadership – develop and mentor a high performing Foresights and Insights team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.  Define the processes by which the team operates and collaborates.   Team members will be a mix of general strategists / foresights professionals, as well as a small set of researchers who focus on future products for the Business marketplace.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of senior level experience developing insights / strategy, forecasting future trends, or driving innovation – preferably within a Fortune 100 or leading strategy consultancy.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and synthesize trends & data, ultimately providing actionable insights through the lens of a senior level marketer.
  • Proven experience gathering, generating, and translating foresights and insights into strategic actions.
  • Strong grasp of foresight and innovation methodologies (e.g., scenario planning, trend mapping, signal scanning, structuring and facilitating cross functional innovation workshops).
  • Deep experience with gathering, interpreting, synthesizing and leveraging external, 3rd party intelligence (e.g., investment bank reports, management consulting white papers, futurist forecasts, research whitepapers, etc.) to develop strategies and drive business decisioning
  • Knowledge of market research tools, techniques, and applicability to business decision making
  • Exceptional storytelling, communication, and influence skills – able to engage and inspire stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong collaborator, with the ability to successfully work cross functionally with all levels of the organization.
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a passion for curiosity, experimentation, and future thinking.  Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering results.
  • Proven experience in senior leadership roles, with a track record of building & leading high performing foresights and insights functions inside/for large scale companies.
