Job Overview

This position is for an experienced Principal Member of Technical Staff with proven expertise in driving development and standardization of radio access network technologies, architectures, network protocols and interfaces in multiple domestic and international standards entities with focus in 3GPP RAN WG2/3 and associated industry entities.  This position will represent AT&T at industry technical forums (primarily 3GPP) developing radio system and radio interfaces. The individual will be a member of the RAN standards team in the Network CTO organization. The successful candidate shall be recognized by their peers as a technical leader in this area and demonstrate the ability to develop new technology solutions, co-lead projects, and provide standards leadership related to AT&T’s 5G-Advanced/6G cellular networks.

What You’ll Do:

  • You will be a member of the RAN standards team in the Network CTO organization and represent AT&T at industry technical forums (primarily 3GPP) developing radio system and radio interfaces.
  • You will drive technical debates, build consensus, and negotiate for success both internally and externally to ensure AT&T’s RAN standardization needs are met. You may need to seek and hold leadership positions in relevant international organizations to foster AT&T engagement and objectives.
  • Internally, you will be responsible for fostering collaboration, communicating, and aligning with multiple internal stakeholders in various organizations.
  • Job responsibilities include production and ownership of overarching standards strategies addressing the integration of radio, terminal, core networks, and services into a system view suitable for defining specific near term and long-term standards action plans.
  • Development of technical contributions and position papers (internally and collaboratively with our vendor partners), assessment of vendor and operator marketplace positions and efforts, and authoring of technical white papers are expected functions.
  • Development of intellectual property (patents) for AT&T is encouraged.

What You’ll Bring:

  • A strong foundation in wireless communication principles and deep understanding of 5G RAN standards, RAN protocol stack and RAN architecture, interfaces and information elements.
  • Prior experience with standardization in 3GPP RAN or O-RAN working groups is a must.
  • Experience in development of RAN system requirements and evaluation/analysis of new wireless technologies is necessary.
  • Good understanding of AI/ML techniques to solve RAN-related problems, including data collection aspects, is a desirable skill.
  • An understanding of O-RAN architecture and interfaces, RAN-CN interfaces and protocols are also desirable skills.

What You’ll Need:

  • Ability to solve complex, critical problems related to significant and unique issues at the system and unit level.
  • Ability to use extensive standards experience and interpretative thinking, utilizing innovative methods to develop and promote standards solutions.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a wide range of audiences, including development of, and partnering with other companies to develop, standards proposals and contributions.
  • Excellent people skills to garner support for company positions in standards bodies and industry alliances.
  • Ability to promote good working relationships and develop mutually beneficial strategic standards-related alliances with other companies.
  • PhD in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or Masters in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Technical Career Pathway (TCP) role.

Our Principal Member of Technical Staff, earns between 

$160,900.00 - $270,400.00 USD Annual. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
