Director of Product Management & Engineering – AI-Powered Search & Virtual Assistants

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Digital Product & Engineering Leader to drive the strategy, development, and execution of AI-powered search and chat virtual assistant capabilities. This leader will oversee a team of product managers and engineers, spearheading innovations that enhance customer experience through generative and conversational AI.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Execution

  • Define and drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI-powered search and chat virtual assistants, aligning with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Dive deep into user needs, pain points, and opportunities.
  • Establish and measure KPIs for engagement, revenue generation, cost savings, and customer satisfaction, ensuring continuous product improvement.
  • Partner with UX and data science to build intuitive, scalable, and efficient AI-driven experiences.
  • Prioritize and execute a roadmap that balances short-term delivery with long-term platform scalability.

Engineering Leadership & AI Integration

  • Oversee full-stack development teams, ensuring high-quality delivery of AI-driven conversational and search products.
  • Provide technical guidance on LLM integrations, NLP, knowledge retrieval, and search ranking algorithms.
  • Foster an engineering culture of experimentation, agility, and continuous learning in AI and machine learning applications.
  • Ensure scalable and efficient deployment of AI capabilities, leveraging cloud-based infrastructure.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of product managers and engineers, cultivating a high-performance, innovative, and customer-obsessed culture.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, customer care, product marketing, and business stakeholders to align AI initiatives with strategic goals.
  • Advocate for responsible AI practices, ensuring fairness, transparency, and ethical AI usage in customer interactions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in digital product management and engineering leadership, with a strong focus on AI, search, and virtual assistants.
  • Proven expertise in building and scaling AI-powered products, particularly in generative AI, NLP, and search ranking algorithms.
  • Strong technical background in machine learning, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and API-driven architectures.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams (product, engineering, UX, and data science) in an agile environment.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with execution, prioritizing initiatives that drive the highest impact.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex AI concepts into business value.
  • Proven experience architecting and implementing agentic frameworks

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with LLM fine-tuning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Understanding of multimodal AI (text, voice, image) applications in virtual assistants.
  • Experience in enterprise-scale AI deployments, including regulatory compliance and ethical AI considerations.

Our Director-Tech Product Mgmt, earns between $191,400-$287,200 USD Annual, not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
