Job Overview:
We are hiring a Lead Java engineer to take on a key role focused on API-first backend development, internal tooling, and orchestration. You will lead the definition and validation of OpenAPI (v3) specifications, support integration efforts with consuming teams, and maintain shared libraries (in both Java and Python) that power our internal platforms. This opportunity will support the transformation of our industry standard order and delivery management systems. You will work on new and existing features, enhancements, and defect resolution on one or more of AT&T’s software systems and platforms.
You will have experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle and are expected to have good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate brings strong Spring Boot experience, understands modern CI/CD and cloud-native development workflow, and enjoys solving problems through reusable components and clear contracts. Experience with Temporal orchestration (using Java SDK) is a huge plus.
Core Responsibilities:
Define, validate, and evolve OpenAPI v3 contracts, ensuring clarify, correctness, and consistency
Build and maintain reusable Java libraries and developer tooling, including data model support and testing helpers
Provide lightweight Python scripting support to enhance development workflows and automation
Maintain and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines (GitHub actions, Azure DevOps), including test coverage and deployment automation
Support containerized applications deployment via Kubernetes and Helm
Collaborate with consumers of your APIs to resolve issues and improve integration experience
Drive best practices in design, testing, and code quality across the team
Support detailed documentation of systems and features
Actively participate in coding exercises and peer code reviews as part of the development life cycles and change management
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience.
5+ years of Java development experience (including Java 17+, ideally 21)
Deep knowledge of Spring Boot, including modular service design and configuration
Strong hands-on experience with OpenAPI v3 and RESTful API design
Familiarity with unit/regression testing framework (e.g. JUnit, Mockito)
Working knowledge of Python for scripting and tooling
Experience with CI/CD and automation tooling (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
Solid understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm
Proven track record in designing and implementing complex Java SE/EE applications
Experience with build tools (Maven/Gradle), and CI/CD pipelines
Strong experience with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL), stored procedures, and familiarity with NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB, Atlas, Cassandra)
Mastery of Agile/Scrum methodologies
Experience in the following areas would be highly desirable.
Orchestration frameworks (Temporal and its Java SDK)
Familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling
Knowledge of TMF standards such as TMF622 (Telecom API schemas)
Education qualifications:
Bachelor level degree or equivalent in Computer Science, or related field of study.

This is a hybrid-flex worker position where our preference is for you to be present with your team in the office at least 1-3 times per week. Travel between our locations in Brno/Bratislava is expected from time-to-time.
