Overall Purpose:
A Category Manager for Marketing and Advertising is responsible for developing and executing the first category plan to optimize procurement strategies for marketing and advertising services, such as media buying, creative agencies, digital marketing, and event management. This role involves collaborating with business units to analyze spend data, understand business needs, and implement cost-effective, value-driven sourcing initiatives that align with overall business objectives. The Marketing and Advertising category focuses on managing supplier relationships, ensuring compliance, driving innovation, and leveraging economies of scale to maximize ROI on marketing investments while maintaining brand integrity.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:'
Category Strategy and Market Analysis:
- Develop and maintain category-specific strategies and plans.
- Conduct market research to identify and assess risks and opportunities.
- Forecast demand for the highly technical category of Network & IT Infrastructure: Hardware, Cloud, Core Network.
Supplier Management and Contract Negotiation:
- Establish contract standards for the supported category.
- Work cross-functionally to support the negotiation of key contracts in their supported category.
- Understand and incorporate technical specifications and requirements.
Collaborative Innovation and Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Drive collaborative innovation with internal stakeholders, supply chain, and suppliers.
- Interface and persuade cross-functional teams, including senior leadership, to ensure seamless execution of category plans.
- Engage in discourse with technical counterparts to bridge the gap between business objectives and technical requirements.
Performance Monitoring and Process Improvement:
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) using data analytics to track category and supplier performance.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Cost Management and Spend Solutions Strategies:
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
- Develop tail spend management strategies to reduce vendor proliferation.
- Leverage technological platforms for efficient buying channel management.
Job Contribution:
- An expert in their field, applying broad business knowledge and strategic insight surrounding emerging trends and technologies to solve complex problems and drive organizational results.
- Lead critical, high-impact projects and design/implement innovative business strategies.
- Work with minimal oversight, frequently consulting senior leadership and influencing executive decisions.
- Serve as a mentor and assist others with challenging issues.
Supervisory: No
Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or advanced degree desired in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
- Typically, 7+ years of professional experience in the relevant category.
- Strong focus on procurement supply chain management and category management in highly technical fields.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale initiatives, successful supplier negotiation and relationship management, and cost-saving initiatives desired.
