About The Team
The Systems Reliability Team specializing in the Mainframe space plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless maintenance, delivery, and operational excellence of key software products that support enterprise functions. This team is responsible for translating core architectural business requirements into comprehensive technical solutions that span platforms, networks, and software components. Leveraging engineering models and techniques, they conduct thorough functional, performance, and reliability analyses, primarily through hands-on software development across the entire technology stack.
In this role, team members define and design application components and subsystems, providing essential technical enablement to support robust and scalable applications. They drive the adoption of important development standards and make strategic decisions that influence the direction of software engineering practices within the Mainframe environment. The position has primary oversight responsibility for Mainframe program products, which are integral to enterprise applications handling ordering, provisioning, installation and maintenance, billing, and collections. These products are foundational to the efficient operation of enterprise systems.
The ideal candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Mainframe program products, bringing deep technical knowledge and leadership to ensure the reliability and performance of these critical systems. Through their expertise, the Systems Reliability Team ensures that Mainframe software products continue to meet the evolving needs of the enterprise, supporting core business processes with high availability and resilience.
What You'll Do
Responsible for translating business needs into technical solutions and defining solutions to problems through reasoned application of information technology.
Elaborates on the design and interfaces for specific components including defining subsystems and their interfaces, allocating responsibilities to subsystems, understanding solution deployment, and communicating requirements for interactions within the solution context.
Consults with development teams to provide a shared technical direction and partners with those teams in elaborating the solution and its interfaces.
Validates technology assumptions and evaluates implementation alternatives.
Consults and guides Applications to implement the best standard solutions for application changes and enhancements.
Designs, develops, documents, and analyzes the overall architecture of systems, including hardware and software.
Determines integrated hardware and software architecture solutions that meet performance, usability, scalability, reliability, and security needs.
Coordinates design and integration of the total system including subsystems.
Researches and recommends technology to improve current systems.
Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within own discipline/specialty area with basic knowledge of other disciplines/specialty areas.
Possesses deep technical knowledge.
Applies in-depth knowledge of discipline/specialty area standards and processes.
Integrates industry experience and deep professional/technical knowledge.
Acts as a technical leader and recognized SME expert on select AT&T technologies, systems, and procedures.
What You'll Need To Bring
3-5 years of technical architect experience.
Highly skilled in using standard z/OS tools such as TSO/ISPF, JCL, IBM Utilities, VSAM Utilities, SDSF, SSO, SAR, and SYSLOG.
Broad knowledge and understanding of multiple mainframe disciplines, including z/OS, IMS, CICS, DB2, MQ Series, Automation, Network, Security, WebSphere, OMVS, batch operations, job schedulers (CA7, ESP), ChangeMan, TCP/IP, JES2, and Application support.
Seasoned technical professional with proven expertise.
Contributes significantly through technical expertise with meaningful departmental and functional impact.
Strong understanding of numerous tools used on z/OS, including COBOL, PL/I, C, Debuggers, File Manager, SyncSort, Finalist, FOCUS, Language Environment, Librarian, Panvalet, and Fault Analyzer.
Experience managing projects of mid to high-level complexity.
Proficient in Network Management, Tools, and Protocols, including Configuration, IP Network Address Management, and Performance Management.
Knowledgeable in data center infrastructure, including blade center design, data warehouse design, and Ebusiness/web hosting design.
Proficient in data communications protocols such as TCP/IP (v4/v6), MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and GMPLS.
Experienced in specifying and evaluating architecture requirements for RFXs.
Understands Virtualization, Storage, and Content Delivery Networks, including Cloud, CDM, Grid, and SAN technologies.
Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Assembler is desired.
Strong problem analysis and troubleshooting skills.
Nice To Have:
- Develops technical documentation on applications and systems.
- Ability to work with both technical and business-oriented teams.
- Knowledge of data center infrastructure, including zOS Mainframe configurations and associated products.
- Proficient in data communications protocols such as TCP/IP (v4/v6, etc.).
- Proficient in methodologies to deliver and support products on the zOS platform, including compilers, debuggers, file manipulation tools, and address validation tools.
- Understands networking architecture.
- Understands storage architecture.
- Familiarity with additional programming languages, including Assembler.
Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical
Engineering, or Math; Developer nanodegree
Our Senior System Engineering, earns between $130,700-$196,100 USD Annual not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
