Field Ops Engineer

Turin, Piedmont, Italy



The core elements required in this role will be:

1.Hardware installation.

2.Cabling installation and standard (cabling pinout, coper fibers).

3.Basic Software configuration.

4.Network diagnostics techniques.

5.Telecom and circuits test and knowledge.

The successful candidate will participate in projects representing the Field Services organization, supporting the key tasks (as above described) for which our organization is responsible, respecting the SLA agreed with our internal clients.

Roles and Responsibilities:

You will work as part of a team of 4 based on-site in Turin, Italy.

The scope of on-site tasks the successful Field Ops Engineer will undertake are:

·Core equipment installation (Cisco, Juniper, Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi, Ciena, Patch Panels etch) including cabling work either copper and fiber.

·Problem determination and troubleshooting on Network Components.

·Customer provisioning.

·Network maintenance and planned work.

·Circuit measurements and test in order to certify quality and performance according to our provisioning order

Responsibilities include:

·Supporting proposed projects, track detailed plan schedules.

·Participating in project calls.

·Performing technical analysis of hardware and transmission facilities using various diagnostic tools and Data Testers in support of efficient network operations.

·Managing external interfaces with Telehouse, 3rd party suppliers and PTT’s for provisioning and maintenance tasks.

·Managing internal interfaces with SD (Service delivery), PIMs (Project Implementation Manager), NRCs (Network Reliability Center), GAM (Global Access management) and NP&E (Network Planning & Engineering).

·Directing and controlling the activities of 3rd party field technicians.

·Supporting configuration updates.

·Documenting and reporting action items.

·Site Survey scheduled to remote POP (National and International) in order to verify quality and status of the site.


Key Competencies and Skills:

To successfully cover the role you must have the following competencies and skills:

·Knowledge of IP and Telecommunications standards.

·Understanding of Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN).

·Wide knowledge of PTT / Carrier technologies and standards (Circuits E1-E3-T3 STMx, Ethernet and Ethernet over SDH/SONET etch.)

·Knowledge of testing methodology and usage of test equipment.

·Fundamental knowledge of Coax Copper and Fibers cabling systems / adapters / interfaces and their installation and handling.

·Principles of electrical engineering.

·Excellent problem solving ability.

·Fluent Italian plus good English, oral and written.

·Car driver’s license and active driver.

·Team player, well-organized and self-motivated person, capable to take initiatives and responsibilities.

·Strongly process and customer oriented with high quality result-oriented approach.

·Experience working in a large multinational organization.

·The ability to work independently and manage own work.

You will be required to travel a few times a year both inside and outside of the country so the ability to drive / commute is essential. The successful Field Ops Engineer will need to be available to travel abroad.

Location: Turin, Italy.

Core working hours for this role are: 8AM to 6PM CET, required flexibility for maintenance activities and availability to work on call 24x7 hours
which usually involves being on-call for 1 week per month with the capability to be on-site within 2 hours for emergencies.
