This position requires a talented innovator and a technical engineer with deep and broad experiences. On this position, the candidate will continue leading the evolution and optimization of the virtualized LTE mobile core control plane. The candidate will design, development and optimization of the Virtual Network Function architecture in the mobile core control plane. The candidate will collaborate with the AT&T cloud architecture and development teams to evolve and enhance the AT&T Network Cloud architecture to support Carrier-Grade virtualized mobile control plane by using his/her deep knowledge on the Mobile Control plane architecture and the Cloud platform architecture.

Further, the candidate will lead the Cloud-native 5G Next Generation Core control plane design, development and deployment. The candidate will collaborate with various AT&T internal teams through the DevOP model to realize and operationalize the Simplified, Ultra-Flexible and cloud-native AT&T 5G Next Generation Core (5G NGC) control plane, which will provide greater operational efficiency and continue improving AT&T mobile core cost structure. The candidate will also lead and drive 5G Network Functions and vendors to achieve AT&T 5G NGC control plane target architecture.

Overall Purpose: Develops solutions to complex business and technical problems or issues of complex scope using advanced engineering and scientific principles. Supports innovation, strategic planning, technical proof of concepts, testing and lab work with 5G standards and the 5G Core. Design, conduct validation testing, and perform field deployment of the 5G solutions for the control plane; MME, EPDG, and 5G Smartphone. 5G core design and development; NxGC RFP, POC testing, Pilot testing (NRF, AMF, NSSF,SMSF, SMF, NEF).

Key Roles and Responsibilities: Applies engineering principles and practice in broad areas of complex technical project work that requires in-depth analysis using advanced techniques, knowledge, and expertise. Provides technical expertise within project teams. Lead the ideation, deployment and testing of the Control plane elements and 5G Core:

  • Lead and drive c/vMME architecture evolution towards Cloud-native with the collaboration of the network cloud platform teams and the vendor. 
  • Design and development new mobile control plane features to support major new AT&T service initiatives (e.g., FirstNet IOC 5.0, LTE Broadcast service, Narrow-Band IoT services, WIFI Calling, Session Slicing function), with the collaboration of mobile service architects  
  • Lead and develop Simplified, Flexible and Cloud-Native 5G NGC control plane through collaboration with various AT&T internal teams and by using the DevOP model. Further, lead and drive 5G Network Function vendors to achieve AT&T 5G NGC control plane target architecture

Education: Required: PhD, Masters or Bachelor’s degree in an approved field such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Mathematics from an accredited university. Refer to the Technical Title Plan for a complete list of degrees. Experience: PhD in an approved field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or Masters in an approved field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors in an approved field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. 

Experience:
  • Have a clear understanding of security standards and architecture and utilize this knowledge while designing, testing and rolling out features to AT&T's network.
  • Knowledgeable about the Service-based architecture used in the 5G Core.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Calico, MacVlan, Multus, DCAE TICK, DCAE ELK, DAMN, Prometheus, Azure Fundamentals.
  • Knowledge and experience working on different cloud and virtualization technologies like VMWare vSphere, Openstack and Containerization and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with deployment and working on AT&T's Network Cloud 2.0 infrastructure.
  • Expertise with automating tasks using DevOps tools like Ansible, POLO, and Puppet as well as scripting languages like Bash and Python.
