Overall Purpose

Performs mission critical data center infrastructure management including input into the planning, design, and construction of capital projects in order to meet growth capacity demands and maintain reliability of multiple critical data centers and other technical space facilities. Also responsible for the management and budget for infrastructure operations and property management.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Responsible for day to day infrastructure operations of AT&T’s mission critical data centers and facilities for the company, which require 24 X 7 uptime. Works with consulting engineers, architects, project managers and contractors to ensure delivery of capital construction projects on budget and schedule, without interruption to current operations, and in compliance with all AT&T company standards and procedures in order to ensure reliability. Project management of design and construction projects for the data centers including all components, managing capital and expense budgets, electrical, mechanical, electrical distribution systems, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), large parallel engineer/generator sets, electrical/mechanical systems and calculations, fire and light safety systems, building control systems, fuel storage, and negotiation and management of service contracts. Conducts engineering analysis for cost effective and reliable solutions on all systems. Responsible for data center uptime, and emergency response for incidents. Responsible for oversight of the infrastructure operations engineers including day to day operations, preventative maintenance, and emergency response. May have 24/7 responsibility to respond to emergency situations.


Preferred:  Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.


Typically 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in data center construction and operations field. Certification in in PMP, BOMI or IFMA and registered Professional Engineer preferred.

Required Qualifications
  • 5-8 years related technical architect experience.
  • Proficient in Network Management, Tools and Protocols (Configuration, IP Network Address Management, Performance Management).
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure (including blade center design, data warehouse design, Ebusiness/web hosting design, etc.)
  • Proficient in data communications protocols (TCP/IP, v4/v6, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, GMPLS, etc.)
  • Proficient in home and premise networking architectures, assessment and modeling.
  • Proficient in specifying and evaluating architecture requirements for RFXs.
  • Understands Virtualization, Storage and Content Deliver Networks (Cloud, CDM, Grid, SAN).
  • Knowledge in voice, video, and app technologies (circuit, VoIP, SIP, IMS, AIN, Camel, etc.).
  • Understands wireless technologies standards and protocols (3GPP, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, antennas, amplifiers, base stations, propagation, interference, spectrum).
Desired Qualifications
  • AS degree in Engineering, Information Systems or related technical field
  • Experience in building multiple versions of large customer facing systems addressing performance and scale.
  • Develops technical documentation on applications and systems
  • Ability to work with technical and business-oriented teams
